Advising in BMB

BMB wants you to be successful here and beyond! We have multiple advising resources available to help you navigate the process of completing your degree. If you are unsure of whom to contact, please email bmbprogram@biochem.umass.edu with your questions.

Peer Advising

BMB Peer Advisors are upperclassmen majoring in Biochemistry who are able to answer and resolve general advising questions. They work particularly with students new to UMass and to the major.

Academic Advising

Valerie and Virginia are your primary advisors and will be overseeing your progression through the BMB major. Dr. Amy Springer is your Chief Undergraduate Advisor and can help with advising specific to course content and opportunities in the major.

Faculty Advising

BMB faculty are available to discuss opportunities for applying your BMB education outside the classroom.

CNS Advising

Contact the College of Natural Science (CNS) advising office for help with general academic policies and procedures such as late adds, course and semester withdrawals, and course repeat options.

Career Advising

The CNS Career & Professional Development Center is available to help you find internships, co-ops, and research opportunities while developing strategies to increase your visible value to employers.

How to have your enrollment hold removed

To help ensure a timely graduation, all BMB majors are required to meet with an advisor before they register for classes. The enrollment hold can be lifted by meeting with a BMB Peer Advisor during their office hours, or by scheduling an appointment with a BMB Academic Advisor. Note: Holds will not be taken off immediately after your advising meeting, but will be lifted in time for your individual enrollment appointment.
